The Wallan community will soon benefit from two exciting new facilities at Our Lady of the Way Catholic Primary School, with a multipurpose hall and early learning centre both scheduled to open in Term 1, 2026.

These investments, supported by the Victorian Government and delivered in partnership with the Catholic education sector, are helping to build the growing community in Wallan East.

The school’s new multipurpose hall will feature a full-sized court for basketball and netball, as well as dedicated spaces for visual and performing arts. The hall will also be available for use by local community groups – ensuring it becomes a vibrant shared space for school and community activities alike.

This major project has been designed by Architect Matters and is being delivered by Raysett Constructions from Riddells Creek. The Victorian Government has contributed $1 million towards construction, with a $5.1 million investment from the school and Catholic community.

Next door, work is also progressing on the Our Lady of the Way Children’s Hub – a dedicated early childhood education and care centre that will accommodate up to 99 children at a time. The hub will also feature consulting rooms for child and family services such as maternal and child health appointments, creating a one-stop shop for families. The kinder facility will offer 178 kinder places for local families.

Funded through the Victorian Government’s Building Blocks Partnership with MACSEYE, the Children’s Hub has received an investment of up to $6.75 million. It will also be made available for community use, creating even more opportunities for local connection and support.

Together, these projects represent a major expansion of educational and community facilities in Wallan – supporting children from their earliest years through to primary school and beyond.

Principal Terry Cooney and the school community have championed both developments, working closely with the Catholic sector and government to deliver high-quality facilities that meet the needs of families in Wallan East.

The State Government is leading a once-in-a-generation reform of early childhood education, investing $2.7 billion to build and upgrade kindergartens so that all children can access two years of free, high-quality early learning before school.

Member for Yan Yean Electorate, Lauren Kathage MP:

“This new hub means families in Wallan East have another option nearby for kinder. It’s a big step forward for this growing community."

“We’re helping to fund facilities like this so that every child — no matter where they go to school — can get the great start they deserve."
