Pledge to Defend the Green Wedge of Yarrambat, Plenty and Eden Park
Yarrambat, Plenty and Eden Park are protected by the green wedge.
No high-density development has been approved for this area.
I know some residents have been told otherwise. I want to be clear: this area is protected, and I do not support opening it up for high-density development or inappropriate subdivision.
Our community has a character that should be protected: larger properties, open space, trees, wildlife, horses, rural-residential living and a deep connection to the landscape.
Victoria has strong green wedge protections for areas like this. Those protections are there for a reason. They stop protected land being quietly carved up by council, developers, landowners, landbankers or speculators.
But we also know there is constant pressure from developers, landbankers and speculators to overturn or weaken those protections.
I understand why locals are protective of this area. Once green wedge land is weakened, people rightly worry that it will never be the same again.
That is why I want the community on record now.
I want it clearly recorded that residents of Yarrambat, Plenty and Eden Park do not support high-density development, inappropriate small-lot subdivision or any attempt to weaken the green wedge protections that apply to this area.
My position is straightforward: I will stand with locals who want the green wedge defended and local character protected.
The Victorian Government is delivering the Yan Yean Road upgrade because it is an important improvement for this area. That project is about safer roads and better traffic movement. It must not be used as an excuse by developers to push for opening up the green wedge or as a doorway to inappropriate development.
Do you support keeping Yarrambat, Plenty and Eden Park in the green wedge and standing against any attempt by developers to weaken protections or push inappropriate small-lot subdivision into this area?
Your feedback will help show developers and land speculators that the community rejects their push to open up the area. It will also prove to decision-makers that locals want these protections defended.
This area is already protected. My job is to stand with locals and make sure those protections are defended.
